Letting go

The paradox of letting go

One of the paradoxes I’ve come to understand is that ‘letting go’ and ‘being present’ are not things I can ‘do’. The mind, by its nature, cannot force stillness or release. These states are byproducts of resting in consciousness. Telling yourself (or anybody) to let go or be present doesn’t work - trying to attain them only pushes them further away.

The shift begins when I recognize that my mind/ego is simply doing what it’s meant to do; thinking, analyzing and grasping. And it’s a beautiful machinery. Rather than resist, I allow the mind to move as it will. In this acceptance, my relationship with it changes – and this is key – it’s about your relationship with your mind, not the mind itself. By resting in the understanding of the mind’s nature, and just being with that, consciousness naturally expands and letting go and being present flows effortlessly from that space.

This understanding is also a first step into non-duality. When you see the mind, doing its thing, like any other sensation arising in consciousnesses something shifts. Thoughts and sensations are part of this continuous flow in this one space. In those moments, glimpses of oneness emerge, and the illusion of separation fades. You realize that nothing is personal; everything is simply unfolding, just experiences passing through.

About Gibster

You’ll find writings on non-duality, self-realization, Zen, Tantra and related topics here. My aim is to make these profound subjects approachable and digestible. I’ve found much of the literature abstract and inaccessible; understanding should be within everyone’s reach.

I’m a self-development addict; it’s fascinating to take yourself as the research object. I’ve explored various self-development trainings and retreats: primal therapy, shadow work, breath work, menswork, concentration meditation, etc. In the last decade, my main teachings come from Rinzai Zen under various teachers (mostly indebted to Jun Po Dennis Kelly Roshi - my most important teacher), and Tantra (various schools).

Always open to feedback and questions!
