Your brain

Human’s have a complex brain

Human’s have a complex brain made up of the reptile brain that handles survival, the mammal brain managing emotions and the primate brain adding reasoning - evolution just kept adding things! :) Your brain creates a lot of mind-chatter, that’s what we call the ego. That ego is working hard to coordinate all the inputs - it’s main task is to help you survive by generating thoughts and feelings - trying to make sense of everything.

It’s important to remember that all this mental activity is normal. There’s nothing wrong with you - it’s just the brain doing what it was designed to do. When you feel stressed, anxious or have ‘mindfucks’ you (sometimes subtly) try to reject those - which just adds another action for the ego as it now will try to fix the feeling/thoughts - more mind chatter! great :)

Do the opposite. Give your ego some space. Let it do its thing without resistance. It’s just doing what it’s supposed to do! Let it. Relax into the process. Embrace your ego, give to room - go even further; be thankful for this marvelous thing, love it, welcome and invite all the thoughts and feelings - because paradoxically that will allow you to just be - just sit with things arising - which in turn will relax the ego and sink to the background.

Once you get more glimpses of the non-dual space, you’ll begin to see that the ego isn’t who you are. It’s just a collection of thoughts coming and going, created by that complex brain. Try to relax in the understanding that your ego is just doing what it’s supposed to do. And, paradoxically, it’s not personal - you are not your brain but the silence (sunyata) beneath.

About Gibster

You’ll find writings on non-duality, self-realization, Zen, Tantra and related topics here. My aim is to make these profound subjects approachable and digestible. I’ve found much of the literature abstract and inaccessible; understanding should be within everyone’s reach.

I’m a self-development addict; it’s fascinating to take yourself as the research object. I’ve explored various self-development trainings and retreats: primal therapy, shadow work, breath work, menswork, concentration meditation, etc. In the last decade, my main teachings come from Rinzai Zen under various teachers (mostly indebted to Jun Po Dennis Kelly Roshi - my most important teacher), and Tantra (various schools).

Always open to feedback and questions!
